Cirrus Sales Director, Avesh Nandhra, talks about what attracted him to work with Cirrus and his hopes for the future.
Q: What is it that first attracted you to work with Cirrus Mining Innovation?
I’ve been in the software sales business for a long time now and I’ve seen how innovative applications break the status quo and I’m delighted to be involved with a visionary team of mining engineers, geologists, software developers and academics, whose collective goal is to turn world of mining software applications on its head.

Q. Why do you think Cirrus is an important tool for mining companies?
One of the key elements holding back the mining and metals industry back is an inability to mitigate risks and exploit opportunities within mineral assets, due to antiquated and complicated software. At Cirrus, we’ve developed an application that represents nothing short of a revolution for the mining industry, with the first cloud-based, dynamic, collaborative, scalable and easy-to-use application that can be used on your laptop, your tablet or your smartphone anywhere in the world.
Q. What does the future hold for the company?
At this stage of our evolution, we have a number of well-known mining conglomerates using the application and word is spreading throughout the industry about the benefits of using Cirrus. Our development team are busy adding functionality to the application and each significant release will confer additional business benefits to our customers. Customer feedback is vital and this is also shaping our product roadmap into the future.

Why do mining companies need Cirrus?
Cirrus is changing the way mining companies handle valuable data, with the first fully web-based mining software solution. In addition to that, it is allowing mining projects to conduct much more comprehensive mineral reserves sensitivity analysis.
Mining companies are still storing important mining data on USB sticks and LAN (Local area networks), this is very outdated and inefficient. It means that data is often lost or corrupted and relies on the resources of expensive IT departments.
With Cirrus, you can upload any kind of mining data into a Cirrus project and store it in the ‘cloud’, meaning data is backed up and easily accessible. Once you have uploaded data, it is straight-forward to share it with colleagues or business partners. You can manage users permissions, so that only the right people have access to sensitive block models and economic information.

As data is uploaded into a Cirrus project, you can visualise it in 3D on any device. You can use your fingers to zoom in and pan objects whilst at the airport, or out in the field.

After you have uploaded block model data, you can create multiple Resource and Economic configurations allowing you to quickly generate resource and reserve reports.

One of the most valuable functions of the Cirrus workflow is the deterministic sensitivity analysis, and this is where we really start seeing the power and speed of calculations made in the cloud. Cirrus’s sensitivity analysis engine is a unique product that can perform economic risk assessment in the n-dimension space on mineral resources and reserves. This allows users to run multiple economic scenarios in minutes, meaning management and operations can make much more informed decisions.
Lastly, mining engineers and geologists are not always sat at their desks. They need software that will work on any device and is accessible in the field. With Cirrus, you can use all its features on a tablet, or a smartphone.
Cirrus is the first 100% web-based mining software solution. Any user, any device, anywhere.
Q&A with Cirrus Software engineer, Richard Hill
Richard Hill, Cirrus Mining Innovation’s Principal software engineer answers some questions about the company:

Q: What is it that first attracted you to work with Cirrus Mining Innovation?
I worked at Datamine with Cirrus’ CTO Mike Lafferty. We spent about 3 months together and I was impressed by Mike. Some 10 years on Mike contacted me about a start up he was kicking off and the more he spoke to me about it the more I felt it was going to succeed. The combination of experience and technical knowledge we have in the company is excellent.
Q. Why do you think Cirrus is an important tool for mining companies?
The ability to utilise the power of the cloud, it is going to be a game changer in the mining industry. Once mining companies understand that they can make decisions in minutes rather than days using the power of the cloud it’ll change how they structure their work. They will be able to make informed and accurate decisions that they can share easily with their colleagues. We are a small business but with that comes agility. We will be able to create new and innovative solutions and bring them to market faster than our competitors.
Q. What does the future hold for the company?
I think that the future for Cirrus is to become the industry leading software in the sector. To bring to market new technologies to enhance the mining business decision making.
